This building, Union Depot, was St. Paul's train station from about 1920-1970. Last year it reopened and soon the Empire Builder Amtrak train will stop here daily on its way from Chicago to Seattle. Also, the Green Line light rail will end right hear in front of the station. They have turned a few of the train platforms into intercity and Metro transit bus stops.
Work on the highway 52 bridge continues. Since I rode downtown with Christoph, I was able to walk around and explore the job site. If I'd gotten any closer they would have required me to wear a hard hat. The bridge and road basically connect interstate 94 just east of downtown St. Paul with the west side of St. Paul across the Mississippi River. Highway 52 is known to some as the Berg-Williams Turnpike.
Under the bridge is where old highway signs go to die.
After Christoph's first day of orientation, we walked around downtown a little to get a lay of the land. This is from the viewing platform next to the Science Museum of Minnesota. Makiko and Jojo will remember that their prom dances took place just across the river at Harriett Island Park. Actually, they took river boats for the dance--this is where they left from.
Christoph has the bus figured out and is ready to rock and roll!
