Yesterday we had our day with Nixon and Prisca from our sister congregation in Ipogoro, Tanzania. I brought them out to Sue’s school for a mini concert performance of her combined eighth grade band of three songs. After opening with America the Beautiful and then doing a Blueridge Mountain medley, they played Under One Sky, the piece that Sue learned from the boy in Nixon’s congregation.
They seemed to enjoy the performance and Sue said they would play this well-liked piece again on their spring band concert.
Prisca said her favorite American food was hamburger. This student has travelled to Tanzania and had some things to say to our honored guests.
This boy donated a bunch of soccer balls for us to give to the kids in Nixon’s congregation.
Nixon turns 40 this year and Prisca is about five years younger. We visited a couple of classes at the middle school and the elementary school and then enjoyed some school lunch.
Sue hand picked some kids to sit with us at lunch. They had a lot of questions. Nixon was very impressed with “the public education” and especially the inclusion of music in that public education.
