While we really, really like our new floors, the combination of yellow and tan walls, light oak woodwork and doors and a bamboo floor the color of an orange cat was a little too much yellow/orange for our (my) taste.
After consulting with my “color stylist” Sarah and her graphic design eye, we decided on a light blue for the kitchen and dining room. This is the first time those two rooms have been the same color. It’s a good look.
One painting project seems to lead to another and the blue in the dining room made the hallway look really “buttery” yellow. I attempted to purchase a very, very light brown but it definitely looks like white or cream if you want to be generous. I’m not sure this color will stay as it is too much contrast from the dark living room but we’ll see.
It’s possible that the blue paint actually makes the cabinets look more orange (Sarah did mention this was possible) and there has been discussion about painting them white. Maybe the planned brownish tile will tone it all down. The blue does look especially nice with the black, white and silver appliances and fixtures.
Never ending projects.
