It was an early morning at the Berg-Williams house. Doug was up early for work this morning and Christoph had to be in St. Paul before 8 this morning to catch the bus for his school trip to Washington DC and New York City. We were supposed to meet the bus in the Sears parking lot at 8am. We, along with several other host families, had arrived early and were waiting. A coach bus pulled into the lot and all the cars drove to the bus only to find out it was waiting for another group. What are the odds?!?!
Their bus finally arrived a few minutes later. They started out at 8:15am and will arrive in Washington DC about 10am tomorrow. His bus is traveling into Iowa to pick up more students before turning left and heading toward Gary, Indiana where they’ll meet up with the second bus to drive through the night. I can imagine a bus full of teenagers traveling through Iowa will produce a lot of cat naps.
Doug woke me up before he left for work this morning to tell me he couldn’t find the orange cat. He didn’t come out for breakfast (which never happens!) and he wasn’t in any of his usual sleeping places so he was worried. Doug had already woke Christoph and looked in his room as the cats like to hang out in there.
We searched the whole house and honestly I was half-expecting we were going to find a dead orange cat somewhere. We searched and searched and searched… We know from previous experience that when cats get locked in a closet (which happens from time to time around here…) that they usually meow so it was alarming that we didn’t hear anything.
We finally found him behind the chair in our office with Christoph’s mesh laundry bag wrapped around his neck. The laundry bag is on a bendable frame so we think he got his neck stuck in the handle, tried to wrestle his way out and got himself even more wrapped up. We’re not sure why he didn’t meow when we were looking for him – Scared? Embarrassed? It seems like all is well now. It reminded us of the time Puccini got a paper grocery bag caught around her neck.
Finally, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Chuck! He turns 70 today and we wish you a wonderful day!
