Back to Boston. Almost a month ago now we used our Charlie Card weekly subway pass to ride the ferry from downtown to Charlestown where we were headed to see the USS Constitution.
We could have gotten from the airport to downtown via the ferry, too. That is definitely an exciting way to enter a new city. Instead, we chose a bus that delivered us directly to the front door of the Hotel Westin with no transfers.
I’m surprised they built the Zakim bridge with such cool architectural style when, as far as I can tell, there are no good vantage points to see the bridge without other bridges and infrastructure obstructing the view.
The Zakim bridge is where I-93 crosses the Charles River. You can see there are bridges on either side and a lock right next to it. The photo above the map is from the right looking left at the bridge. By the way, our hotel, the Hotel Marlowe, that we stayed at nights three and four in Boston, is located right where the “C” is of “Canal Park”.
Boston over the years has grown out into the bay by the miracle of landfill. The sight of the Boston Tea Party is now several blocks inland.
Old North Church with its highly visible towering belfry.
This may be the USS Cassin Young, a WWII era destroyer that was retired from the Navy in the 1960s.
Here is our swank hotel room at The Hotel Marlowe. There were some mini conventions going on at the The Hotel Marlowe while we were there with a lot of French being bandied about. I think there was a wedding reception, too, on a Wednesday evening.
Stylish Sue
The entrance to the The Hotel Marlowe. I think Sue is “checking the tire” on the bicycles that we borrowed from the hotel.
Here are some rowers on the Charles River.
