Sue sat down and played some of the Well-tempered Clavier, J.S. Bach’s collection of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys. She chose book one, prelude one in C major. Bach wrote this piece to showcase the new-fangled tuning of the piano in which each key sounds mostly in tune with itself but not perfectly in tune like you could tune a piano but then you could only play in that one key. Tempering the tuning allowed a piano player to play music that modulates to different keys without sounding horrible. Does that make sense? It’s hard to explain. And then she turned to the hymn Praise the Lord O Heavens (red ELCA hymnal #823) set to the tune of the German National Anthem. Christoph was encouraged to sing along.
Day #162 of the on-going flooring project. Special thanks to Duke for cutting 1/4 inch off the bottom of several baseboards. The reason for these cuts would bore you to tears. Also, thanks to Mike Berg for his on-going expert consultation in all areas of wood, flooring, strange noises cars make, and cheap airfare.
Here’s proof that Ann has sold her house. She’s moving to Burnsville, south of the river (when Minnesotans say “south of the river” they mean south of the Minnesota River).
Here’s Christoph’s tree finally turning yellow. . . in November. This has been a really late fall.
I bought some mini C-clamps to try to make my mitering activities a little safer but in the end, I couldn’t clamp the quarter round boards because of their inherent quarter roundness. I used the masking tape on the board trick to reduce splintering and projectile pieces of board flying across the room.
Sue and Christoph did some stick and leaf raking while I was cutting boards. Sue can be seen here pointing our a squirrel nest in the big tree. Say it Johanna: “SQUIRREL”.
We even heard someone playing his trumpet this afternoon.
Salsa Queso made with Velveeta “cheese”.
Ravel was alternately helpful and a big scaredy cat during trick or treating on Thursday night.
Nigel was a bit more standoffish.
